Yeah, yeah, I know, I've told you before that my favorite steak is my Grilled Ribeye that is grilled and topped with a simple compound butter.
And it is, or it was - I think. Maybe.
Hear me out, now that I no longer have a gas grill and I can just prepare a steak inside my house without heating up the house in the summer; the air fryer ribeye might just be my best method of cooking steak.
Some will argue cooking steak in a cast iron on the stove is best. I do not have that option due to ventilation so I cannot comment.

If my husband had his way, I'd always serve ribeye with mashed potatoes but since he doesn't, I often serve this steak with my air fryer sweet potato cubes. I'm also planning on trying these Air Fryer Baby Potatoes. Yum!
And don't think steak is the only protein that can be cooked in an air fryer. I love to cook boneless chicken thighs, Italian sausage and I've had my eye on this recipe for Air Fryer Turkey Breast.
Finish off this air fryer meal with an Air Fryer Chocolate Cake! Yup, you can do that!
🔪Ingredients
When it comes to a good steak, I want the flavor of the steak. Simple, salt, pepper and garlic powder will compliment the natural flavors.
Sometimes, instead of these individual seasonings, I'll use an all purpose steak seasoning like a Montreal Steak Seasoning and that works really well too.
- Boneless Ribeye Steak - look for cuts that have marbling (little white flecks), this is where the flavor is, in my humble opinion.
- Oil - something with a higher smoke point like avocado oil or sunflower oil
- Seasonings - keep it simple with my holy grail trio of garlic powder, salt and pepper.

🥘Instructions
Here are some simple instructions showing how I cook ribeye in the air fryer. If you don't need the visual, feel free to jump down to the recipe card.
- Take the steaks out of the refrigerator about thirty minutes before you plan to cook them. Pat them dry.
2. Coat the steaks in oil and seasoning with the seasonings on both sides, evenly.
3. Place in air fryer basket without the steaks touching. Air fry, flipping over with tongs, half way through cook time.
4. Allow the steaks to rest 3 to 5 minutes before slicing (against the grain).
Cook time will vary from air fryer to air fryer and also depending on the thickness of the steak. This is why using a quick-read thermometer is useful.
Approximate cook times for cooking ribeye in the air fryer:
- 6 to 8 minutes - Medium Rare
- 8 to 10 minutes - Medium
- 10 to 12 - Medium Well to Well
🍳Equipment
Air fryers, like all cooking equipment, vary with brand. I have stuck with the Cosori brand for years. I have tried a few others along the way but ended up giving them away and sticking with my Cosori.
If you are in the market for a new Air Fryer, I can confidently suggest this Cosori Air Fryer.
🍽️Storage
Leftovers, should you have any, can be store in the refrigerator in an air tight container for 2-3 days.
Leftover steak is a great protein source for breakfast. Try making a leftover steak hash with your leftover ribeye!
❓FAQ
It isn't completely necessary but the steak will cook more evenly if it is flipped midway through the cook process.
Yes, for steak, I recommend pre-heating your air fryer. Pre-heating will help with crisping up the outside surface of the steak.

Grilling is great but this is perfect when I don't feel like grilling. I use Montreal Steak seasoning on mine.
