It's time I admit something to you all. Here goes.
I, Christine Hadden, am a huge slob in the kitchen. Phew, that felt good to admit.
Seriously though, I can't tell you how many times my husband has come home from work, walked into the kitchen to say hello, stare at me and say "Is that a new shirt?". And me, all excited about how he noticed my nice new shirt. In my head I think "It must look good". It all starts going to my head until he follows up with "looks like you already splattered something on it". NOOOOOOOOOO! Every single stinking time!
The Meatballs
On to the meatballs. I chose turkey for two reasons, the first being ground turkey was super cheap this week and the second being that turkey is lighter than beef. Why not lighten things up a bit?
I start off by combining all my meatball ingredients in a bowl and try my hardest not to wipe my hand on my clothes or apron (failing miserably of course). The meatballs get popped right in the oven and bake for only about 20 minutes. While the meatballs are baking I create the glaze. This is where I need to be especially careful of splattering. Sriracha has been known to ruin a few new shirts of mine. The meatballs come out and take a little dip in the glaze and then go back in for 5 minutes. After that 5 minutes they come out shiny and perfect!

- 1 egg
- 2 green onions chopped
- 1 ½ teaspoon ginger paste
- 2 garlic gloves minced
- ½ C breadcrumbs plain
- 1 teaspoon soy sauce
Glaze
- ⅓ C soy sauce
- 1 teaspoon ginger paste
- 1 T sriracha
- 2 T brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon rice vinegar
- ½ teaspoon pure sesame oil
- 1 T lime juice freshly squeezed
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350.
- In a large bowl combine all the meatball ingredients by hand. Be sure not to overmix. Shape into balls. Place balls on a parchment, foil or silicone baking mat lined baking sheet.
- Bake meatballs 20 minutes. Remove meatballs from oven and increase the heat on the oven to 450.
- While meatballs are cooking prepare the glaze by placing all ingredients in a small saucepan over medium/high heat. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat to medium and stir often. Cook about 5 minutes. Set aside.
- When meatballs are done cooking, using a spoon, dip each meatball into the glaze to coat completely. Place coated meatballs back on lined baking sheet.
- Place coated meatballs back in oven for 5-7 minutes until glaze is shiny and set.
- Serve meatballs over rice.

I use Shout all the time, but I wish it were better at grass stains. They kill me.
Carolyn says
Oh my, these look fantastic. I'll take several dozen, please! Glad the stain remover worked so well, I will have to look for that!
Danita says
Nice to see I'm not the only one who gets messy when I cook! My aprons are bad...I need some Shout!
Kirsten/ComfortablyDomestic says
Ugh! I'm right there with you. Unless I'm teaching a class, I rarely remember to put on the apron until after I've spattered something all over myself. Saucy Asian meatballs such as these would totally be worth the extra effort with the laundry.

I showed the picture of these meatballs to my hubby. He says "Let's have that for dinner!" I'm looking forward to it, too.

That's awesome! Thanks and Enjoy!

I find it soooo hard to believe that you are slob in any aspect of your life, and definitely not in your kitchen. Your recipe, personality and everything I have known about you thus suggest that you are one very organized person. I am glad you not giving up making Asian cooking, because this looks very creative.
foodyschmoody says
You are right, I am very organized - except when I'm cooking I am rather messy. I'm more of a pinch here pinch there then taste kind of gal and that is where I tend to drip and drop things all over the place - including on myself! If only I had a sous chef!
Reesa Lewandowski says
I love how delicious and simple these look! My kids will love them!
Nutmeg Nanny says
I have to laugh because I'm always getting food all over my clothes when I cook and eat. Shout is totally a clothes saver! These meatballs looks fabulous too! LOVE all that flavor you packed into these beauties.

ooo I've got to get some of that because I'm always a mess in the kitchen. Just yesterday I got strawberry juice all over my new purple shirt. I was totally bummed! Ps. love the meatballs!

First, awesome recipe! Second, Shout is a must for cooks!!!
Melanie says
These look delicious! My mother in law introduced me to Shout wipes a few years ago!
Kathleen says
Oh wow, these sound so good. I also splatter everything on me when I cook. It's gotten to where I put on an old t-shirt if I'm making something particularly messy. Sauces are my biggest problem. I will make these meatballs though. They really sound tasty.
Justine says
What a great new dinner idea! Thanks. Will try it this week!
