Oven Baked Chili Cheese Dogs - An easy way to please a crowd.  Hot dogs, buns and all, are baked to perfection with mounds of chili and cheese.  Great time saver for a party!

Oven Baked Chili Cheese Dogs is one of those recipes I've been seeing floating around on Pinterest for a while now.  I kept thinking, why would I want to bake my hot dogs, when hot dogs are so freakin' quick and easy to make anyway.  And those buns, those buns have got to get soggy at the bottom of a casserole dish, right?

    WRONG!

The bun comes out perfectly toasted! I am actually mad at myself for not testing this method out sooner.

Before we go any further, there is something important I need to tell you.  Most of my friends are equally surprised and horrified by this.  Okay, here goes:  I Love Hot Dogs.

Not even the healthy ones.  The good old, don't you dare tell me what they are made of, hot dogs.  I always have.  It's so funny, because I am generally picky about my meat choices but man, give me a plain old hot dog, in a bun and I am a happy girl.

You guys know already, I am anti condiments.  I just don't care for any of the "normal" ones.  But, I knew that I couldn't serve up plain old hot dogs for dinner to my husband (he is not a fan like I am).  I decided that even though Scott isn't a hot dog lover, if I spruced them up a bit, he could be...maybe.

After googling Oven Baked Hot Dogs, I noticed most people were topping theirs with chopped onions, mustards, and relishes (gag) and even weirder, (to me) mayo!  Since I don't like any of that stuff, I decided to go chili cheese (I mean how can anything chili cheese be bad).  Mine are super easy and pretty plain.  All I added was chili and some shredded cheese.  Feel free to add onions, peppers or any of those normal people hot dog toppings, if that's your thing.

    WHICH CHILI SHOULD I USE?

You can use canned chili of course.  I prefer to use the leftovers when I make my Instant Pot Black Bean Chili, Game Day Chili, Kid-Friendly Chili or even my 30 minute turkey chili.

All you do is line up your hot dog rolls in a casserole dish, place hot dogs in, top with chili and then top with cheese.  Pop some aluminum foil over the top and bake them.  Done.  I oven roasted my corn on the cob too, so everything came out together and was ready to go.  Perfect summer dinner.

    PERFECT FOR A CROWD

Oven Baked Chili Cheese Dogs (or just oven baked hot dogs) are an awesome way to feed a crowd. You can just throw a few pans full of these in the oven and spend your party mingling and having fun instead of being stuck at the hot grill all day.

Don't be ashamed of your secret, I have a hard time turning a hot dog away too! I rarely eat them these days but if I'm at a bbq I almost always eat one. Now just pass me one of these please.
