Game Day Taco Pizza -  Pizza gets a new flavor profile; sure to please all the big appetites on the next big game day!

I talked to you guys recently about how my son has a new found love of all things taco flavored.  I've been making Taco Meatloaf and Taco Pasta at least once a week.  Okay, maybe I'm making them twice a week.

Well, anyway with all these mid-week taco-ish meals, I thought it was time to bring these big bold taco flavors into the weekends, more specifically, into Game Days!

We tend to spend the big game days at our own house.  Why fight the crowds at a bar or restaurant?  We've got a big flat screen TV with an unobstructed view, plenty of seating and even more important, food.  Tons of food.

Pizza is usually a staple during game day, so I thought it was time to jazz it up a bit.

Since I had already collected all my Old El Paso taco ingredients at Walmart for our mid-week taco meals, I thought what better way to change up the pizza than make it taco style!  I know, right?

Listen, here's the thing when cooking for game day, you don't want to spend all day cooking.  You want to be parked in front of that TV, stuffing your face and watching the game.  That's why I am pretty psyched that this Game Day Taco Pizza comes together in just 20 minutes, from beginning to end.

As with most of recipes, certain ingredients can be changed up for what you prefer.  For instance, we don't care for tomatoes (translation, my husband doesn't care for tomatoes), so I spread some salsa on there instead of tomatoes.  If you are a tomato on the taco kind of person, by all means, add some fresh tomatoes on there.

So, on to the recipe.  To keep things easy, I've used a store bought pizza crust.  I spread Old El Paso Refried Beans over the crust, followed by salsa, ground beef (which was prepared as for tacos), cheese and jalapenos.  Once the pizza is baked.  I like to serve extra salsa, guacamole and sour cream on the side for dipping.

Oh, I want to mention really quickly that if you have some vegetarians coming to your Big Game Day, don't fret.  There is an option for them too.  Omit the ground beef and use Old El Paso Vegetarian Refried Beans.  I made this Game Day Taco Pizza both ways; with the meat and without and I have to say, even my carnivore husband liked them both!

    Ingredients

    • 1 store bought pizza crust
    • 1 T olive oil
    • ½ lb ground beef
    • ½ packet of Old El Paso Taco Seasoning
    • ½ C Old El Paso Refried Beans
    • ½ C Salsa
    • 1 Jalapeno sliced or chopped
    • 1 C shredded mexican cheese blend
    • 1 T freshly chopped cilantro
    • Optional garnishes: sour cream guacamole

    Instructions

    • Preheat oven to 425.
    • Prepare ground beef according to taco seasoning instructions, as for tacos, except half all of the ingredients. Set aside.
    • Prepare crust by brushing oil over surface. Spread refried beans over crust, leaving a border of about an inch. Next, add the prepared ground beef, followed by the salsa, jalapenos and cheese.
    • Bake on a baking sheet for 10-15 minutes. Cooking time will vary depending on the type/brand of crust you have. Be sure to note the cooking times on package.
    • When cheese is melted and crust is browned, remove from oven, top with fresh cilantro and serve with desired taco garnishes.
