Baked Donuts

Ingredients

For the Donut Batter

  • 8 T butter softened
  • 1 C sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 3 C flour
  • 4 ½ teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon nutmeg
  • ½ teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 C milk

For The Icing

  • 1 C powdered sugar
  • 2 T milk
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract

For The Cinnamon Sugar Coating

  • 6 T butter melted
  • ½ C sugar
  • ½ teaspoon cinnamon

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350
  • Using a hand mixer, cream together butter and sugar
  • Add the eggs and vanilla and mix well
  • In a separate bowl combine flour, baking powder, salt, nutmeg and cinnamon
  • Add dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and slightly mix together, add milk and mix thoroughly
  • Fill the wells of a non stick donut pan with batter (you may find it helpful to place batter in a pastry bag and squeeze into wells) and bake 15-20 minutes
  • If making donut holes, fill the wells of non stick donut hole pan and bake 7-9 minutes
  • Turn out donut/donut holes to cooling rack
  • Allow donuts to cool before icing
  • Coat donut holes while still warm

For Icing:

  • Whisk together powdered sugar, milk and vanilla in a saucepan over low heat, just until combined and smooth. Dip cooled donuts into icing and top with sprinkles if desired.

For Cinnamon Sugar Coating:

  • Combine cinnamon and sugar in bowl
  • Dip donut holes into melted butter
  • Roll buttered donut hole around in cinnamon sugar to coat well
