Baked Onion Dip

This Baked Onion Dip is full of caramelized onions, sour cream, yogurt and lots of freshly grated gruyere cheese.  The perfect dip for a holiday gathering, game night or game day snack!

Ingredients

  • 2 Tablespoon butter
  • 3 medium sweet onions thinly sliced
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • ¼ teaspoon thyme dried
  • 2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
  • ½ teaspoon salt kosher
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper freshly cracked/ground
  • ¼ cup beef broth
  • 4 ounce cream cheese softened
  • ½ cup sour cream
  • ¼ cup Greek yogurt plain
  • 1 ½ cup gruyere cheese shredded/grated
  • 1 tablespoon chopped parsley optional/garnish

Instructions

  • Melt butter in a large skillet over medium heat.  Add onions.  Cook, stirring only occasionally to allow the onions to caramelize.  This should take about 30 minutes.
  • Preheat oven to 350 F.  Spray a 9 inch baking dish or pie dish with non-stick spray.
  • Once onions are golden and caramelized, add garlic, thyme, Worcestershire sauce, salt and pepper.  Stir well and cook 5 more minutes.
  • Stir in beef broth.  Increase heat to medium high and bring to a simmer for 2 minutes.  Remove from heat.
  • Stir in softened cream cheese, sour cream, yogurt and 1 C shredded gruyere.
  • Transfer mixture to a prepared baking dish.  Top with remaining cheese. Bake in preheated oven for 12 to 15 minutes until bubbly.
  • Garnish with fresh parsley if desired. Serve warm with sliced bread, pita chips and/or crackers.

Notes

If you don't have gruyere or that is not your preference, try white cheddar or if you like a good cheese pull, use mozzarella.
