Not only is this strawberry sauce easy to make and delicious but it is a great way to use up berries that might be almost ready to get tossed.

This fruity sauce is not overly sweet, just sweet enough in my opinion.

This is definitely a strawberry dessert sauce, not really a jam or jelly. If you want to try your hand at a strawberry jam, try this Strawberry Freezer Jam.

If you find yourself with more leftover strawberries even after you prepare this strawberry sauce, another great use for them is this 4 ingredient strawberry sorbet or Strawberry Cheesecake Tacos!

    🥘Ingredients

With only three ingredients, you'll find this homemade strawberry sauce so easy to prepare. That's right, the only ingredients needed are:

    • strawberries
    • vanilla extract
    • sugar

    🍲Texture / consistency

Personally, I prefer my fruity dessert sauces a little chunky. This is subjective and you can make your own decision regarding this.

    • Smoother consistency - puree all the berries
    • Chunky consistency - don't puree at all, simply mash a bit in pan
    • A little Chunky - only puree some of the berries but reserve some and stir in at the end

    🔪Instructions

As I already mentioned, this fruit sauce is very easy to make.

Add all ingredients (except optional reserved strawberries) to a pan over medium heat. Allow mixture to cook down.

Ingredients in pan prior to cooking.

Use an immersion blender to quickly breakdown the berries. You could also use a potato masher if no immersion blender.

A wooden cutting board is the background. On top of it is a pan with the cooked berry mixture. To the left of that is an immersion blender.

Stir in the reserved berries, if using. Refrigerate.

    🍽️Serving suggestions

While there are many uses for this homemade strawberry sauce, here are a few of my favorites:

    • cheesecake
    • angel food cake
    • pancakes
    • cake filling
    • ice cream topping
    • smoothie bowls
    • parfaits
    • biscuits
    • trifles

    Helpful tips

A word about pureeing this Easy Homemade Strawberry Sauce.  I find the easiest way to do this is using an immersion blender on the lowest setting.  If you don't have access to an immersion blender, you can toss it in a regular blender I suppose, but then you've got a blender to clean.  I suggest getting an immersion blender.  I find I get the most use out of it for sauces like this and also for tomato sauces.

If you are lucky enough to have fresh strawberries in your area those are best. In a pinch, you could use frozen/defrosted.

I have not personally frozen it so I can't speak from experience. However, I have a friend who has let me know she has kept in the freezer with no problems. She froze hers in an ice cub tray and then stored in a re-sealable bag in the freezer.
