Once you learn how easy it is to make Homemade Cranberry Sauce, you'll never go back to the canned stuff.

This Thanksgiving staple only takes a few minutes to prepare and can be made ahead of time.

Tart and sweet, but not too sweet, this cranberry sauce is simple perfection!

There are certain things that I just have to have on Thanksgiving.

Turkey, sure. That's all fine but I actually don't care much about the turkey as I do the Thanksgiving sides and Thanksgiving desserts.

Some of my favorites are Thanksgiving Stuffing and Green Bean Casserole.

    And of course, cranberry sauce!

Don't forget to save some leftovers for your Leftover Turkey Sliders.

    🥘Ingredients

Ingredients for recipe on a wooden cutting board.

Measurements and specifics can be found in the recipe card down below.

    • Cranberries - fresh
    • Orange juice
    • Water
    • Cinnamon
    • Sugar - both white granulated and light brown
    • Orange zest

    🔪Cooking Instructions

Ingredients in a saucepan on the stove.

Add all ingredients to a saucepan.

Cranberry sauce ingredients combined in a pan on the stove.

Bring just to a boil for one minute.

Cranberry sauce boiling on the stove.

Simmer 10-15 minutes. You'll hear the cranberries popping during this time. That's normal.

    Cranberry sauce simmering.

    That's it.

Just let it cool, store in the refrigerator until you're ready to serve it.

A quick note: the cranberry sauce will thicken the more it cooks but also as it cools.

If you don't have a zester, grab yourself one, they're pretty cheap.

The one I have been using for over 10 years is this one by OXO but for just a few dollars more you can get a microplane style, which is what I want eventually when I lose the one I have.

A lot of recipes call for boiling your liquid first and then adding your cranberries.  I don't bother, I throw everything in the pan and let it cook for about 10-15 minutes, stirring every now and then, and then let it sit to cool.

    ❓FAQ

Can cranberry sauce be made ahead?

Yes! I make my cranberry sauce 2 days in advance. It will keep in the refrigerator for about 5 days.

Call me a weirdo, but I make cranberry sauce all the time... I mean, why should something so delicious be reserved for just two holidays a year? 🙂 Love the addition of orange juice and zest to give it a little extra brightness!
