I am being financially compensated for this post. As always, the opinions are completely my own, based on my experience. #garlicpress
I haven't reviewed any products other than actual food products here in quite some time. I know from your past feedback that you enjoy my opinions on certain food prep items, so when I was asked if I was interested in trying out the X Chef Garlic Press, I figured it was time to get back into review mode.
First things first. I use a LOT of garlic. I mean, a lot. And even though I love the smell of garlic wafting through my house, I don't always love having that same smell lingering on my fingers for days. Occasionally, I will use a garlic press but a lot of times I've been frustrated with them and just mince by hand. But what the heck, I'm was willing to try out another.
Speaking of garlic, here are some great dishes of mine that star garlic:
Chicken Cutlet w/ Lemon Garlic Dressing
I ordered the press right from the Amazon website. I like the ease of that, you guys know I love Amazon.
So what did I think? Well, here's the good, the bad and everything in between.
- It's sturdy feeling without being too heavy.
- It's stainless steel
- The sleeve to peel the garlic works amazingly well. I admit, I didn't think it was going to work at all, but I'm psyched to have this little doodad to peel my garlic from now on.
- It minces the garlic as it should.
- Unfortunately, it doesn't come with a scraper tool and some of the minced garlic sticks to the press.
- The handles are easy enough to squeeze together while mincing (I have difficulty with my right hand due to rheumatoid arthritis and I was able to maneuver just fine).
- The "well" or "basket" is large enough to handle any size garlic I had on hand.
- Backed by a LIFETIME Guarantee
- Dishwasher safe (that's a HUGE plus in my book)
So, all in all, it saved me a bit of time in the kitchen and it definitely relieved me of getting stinky hands!

Hmmm, you have me tempted. I have never had a garlic press worth it's cost. I just use a knife or a grater. But I am going to mull this over because while like you, I love garlic, I do tire of smelling in on my hands all the time.

I have never used a garlic press, but I have been using garlic more recently so it might be worth the investment

We love our garlic press! I don't remember what it was like before we had one--we use garlic in most of our dinner recipes!

I am in the market for a new garlic press. My last one broke easily. That is what I get for not buying a quality garlic press. The X-Chef garlic press looks very sturdy and long-lasting.

I should get one too, I bet it speeds up the process! Here's a great tip....to get rid of the garlic smell on your hands rub your hands on stainless steel - faucet, etc. - eliminates the smell of garlic, kinda wild but it really works!

I've heard that. My sister in law even has a stainless steel "bar of soap". It's formed stainless steel that looks like a bar of soap! My problem w/ using the stainless steel is then I feel like I have to go and wash that thing that I'm rubbing my hands on both before and after so I end up w/ extra work lol!
