Plum Crisp - A tart summer dessert that comes together easily with summer's seasonal plums.

    Plum Crisp

As the summer starts winding down, I know that my weeks of visiting the Farmer's Market are numbered.  Normally it wouldn't be a big deal, but as I mentioned in the past, it's really turned into an amazing thing for me and my kids.  I love to see them questioning me about vegetables then dancing around to the music being played; taking breaks only for bites of sweet, juicy fruit that will always make a mess dripping down their smiling painted faces.

    Plum Crisp

Most weeks I have to admit, we come home with nothing because we eat our purchases while we are still lounging around on a blanket listening to the band. When something does seem to make it home, I love the challenge of creating something new.  Well, maybe not new, but new to me.  You remember the things I made with those garlic scapes, right?  If not, you can check those out here and here.

Last time we went, my daughter talked me into purchasing an obscenely priced box of plums.  They were the tiniest plums I ever saw, but if the girl wants to try something new, well by all means, I'm buying it.  She ate a good handful right there and then and fell in love.  I managed to save some to bring home but when I set out to bake something, I realized I didn't have quite enough.  So yet again, the kid cost me more money because I had to hit the grocery store for a few more plums.

    Plum Crisp

So basically I took an old Apple Crisp recipe that I have and turned it into a Plum Crisp.  It's super easy.  I didn't peel the plums or any of that craziness.  This did turn out pretty tart.  I like it like that, but if it's not your thing, maybe add a bit more sugar to cut down on that.

    Plum Crisp

Feel free to glob some vanilla ice cream right on top or even some whipped cream.  I, for one, like a dessert straight up without the extras, but you do what you like!

This is a delicious dessert, it sounds so easy to make. I love making crisps and tarts, you can use almost any fruit you happen to have. The plums are perfect for this season.

I love anything that's cobblerish but I haven't tried it with plum - only apricots and apples.

Oh we do that too, half of the food we buy ends up being eaten before we make it home! This look really yummy and I can't wait to try it when plums come back into season over here.
