Disclosure:  I received products free of charge from Eggo for the purpose of reviewing.  All opinions are my own.

Today,  I'm going to share with you my experience with trying Eggo Gluten Free Waffles!

    Eggo Gluten Free Waffles

My kids are the big waffle eaters in the house.  My son, in fact, has an Eggo waffle just about every day.  Sometimes he has it for breakfast, but often he has them for lunch, served alongside a yogurt or some fresh fruit.  Since they are not only the resident waffle experts but also the pickiest eaters I've ever encountered, I thought it would be fun to pull a switcheroo on them.  This way I could really get a sense as to the flavor difference from the original ones.  I mean, come on, if you have kids around my kids' ages (6 & 3), you know they are nothing but brutally honest.  And I stress the brutal portion of that statement!

Since my son is the pickier of the two, I was really focused on him.  Every time he requests a waffle he says "and make it burnt please".  By "burnt" he means brown, not actually burned.  I did notice that the Eggo Gluten Free seemed to take a few more minutes in the toaster to turn brown - no biggie.

As Josh (6 year old) was devouring his second Gluten Free Waffle, I asked him "do these waffles taste different to you?".  I sort of cringed waiting for it and was pleased to hear "no, just yummy like always"!  Success!  Phew!

I've tried my hand at some gluten free baking in the past and have been less than impressed, so I'm pleased to have found a gluten free product that tastes to similar to the original.

I wanted the kids to also check out the Gluten Free Cinnamon Waffles.  We (me and the kids) have been talking a lot lately about balancing healthy foods and indulgent treats.  I'm not opposed to indulgent treats (at all) but I do like some healthy stuff thrown in there too.  I decided that making our Eggo Gluten Free Cinnamon Waffles into our treat was a great idea.

To Make Eggo Gluten Free Waffle Treats :

Toast the Eggo Gluten Free Cinnamon Waffles

Placed 1 scoop of vanilla ice cream on top of waffle, drizzle just a bit of maple syrup over the ice cream and finally sprinkle the whole thing with chopped strawberries.

For Nora (3 year old), I added the final touch of a cherry on top because she loves cherries, but I had to leave that off for the picky guy!

LOL I know what you mean about asking your kids what they think and that horrible pause of three seconds that feels like an eternity! Kids are always honest about that sort of thing 🙂 Awesome post!

Oh Debra, you've got no idea w/ that one. I choose my battles very carefully. You want to wear a fancy Christmas dress on a random Tuesday? Fine. You want to wear a Rapunzel hat while eating waffles? Sure.

Those waffles don't look like typical gluten free stuff does. Very cool!

I'm with you, I'm not against yummy sweet treats, but it's always great to throw in the healthy stuff too! =0)
And I like my waffles like your son (I even call them "burnt" too!). It's great that the gluten free variety taste similar to the oh-so-yummy original. Some gluten free recipes I've tried have been major flops, but others have been really tasty. I'd be willing to try these eggos!

Ha! That's funny, I'll have to tell my son he's not the only one to take them 'burnt" 🙂
