Inside Out Movie Night Gelatin Treats

My entire family went to the theater a few months ago to see Inside Out and we loved it.  We laughed.  We cried.  And we felt all their emotions right along with them.  It was tons of fun.  When we fall in love with a movie in the theater, we just can't wait for it to be released on Blu-Ray (or DVD) to add to our home collection.  We have a huge collection of family movies.

As I was gearing up for movie night, I thought it would be fun to make a treat for the kids (and me) that went along with the Inside Out movie theme.

Inside Out Move Night Gelatin Treats

If you haven't yet seen it, there are characters that represent each emotion.  Since my little Nora has recently discovered the wonder and deliciousness of flavored gelatins, I decided to make a gelatin dessert based on the emotions characters.  Fun, right?

While I was in the baking aisle at Target, Nora spied some Market Pantry Mini Marshmallows and that girl begged like no girl has begged before for those marshmallows.  What the heck, I got them.  When I got them home, I thought they could even be dropped into some of the gelatin cups and would represent the "core memories".

Nora was even more impressed when I also snagged some whipped topping from Target too!

Oh, I should mention, the Inside Out Blu-Rays and DVDs from Target include a 20 minute bonus feature with deleted scenes.  My kids always love the deleted scenes.  Anyway, back to the treats.

While this recipe is super duper easy, it's a little time consuming because in order to layer the different colors of gelatin, you have to let each one set first.  I sped up the setting up time by using the quick set method of ¾ C boiling water and then when the gelatin is dissolved, I added a ½ C cold water with enough ice to make it 1 ¼ C.  It took about 20 minutes per layer.  It doesn't have to be totally set, just most of the way.

To get things a bit more on the Inside Out track, I googled "printable image for Inside Out".  I printed the character pictures I found and taped them to each cup so the kids could choose whichever emotion they wanted. Fun, right?

My kids love Joy.  I took a liking to Disgust.  Who is your favorite character/emotion from Inside Out?
