    Baked Donuts

Happy Valentine's Day everyone! If you're looking for an extra special breakfast treat for your little Valentines, boy, have you come to the right place today. These baked donuts will show them all how much you love them.

    Baked Donuts

I recently purchased both a donut pan and a donut hole pan from Amazon. They were cheap enough, and as you know, I use Amazon Prime, so free delivery! My favorite part! Anyway, what prompted me to buy these pans, is my little Nora. You know by know about all her food allergies. Well, her brother, loves donuts and how can I buy him donuts at the coffee shop when poor Nora can't have them? I'm guilty of it, I admit, but no more. Now I can control what is going into our donuts.

Baked DonutsI, of course had to try out both the donut pan and the donut hole pan, because I'm ridiculously impatient. They both came out awesome. I just whipped up one batch of batter and used it for both. I rolled the holes in cinnamon sugar and since we're all things Valentine over here lately, I glazed the donuts with a vanilla icing and topped with cute little heart sprinkles. I also have yet to find a regular sprinkle that doesn't contain soy, so these are not only cute, but safe for Nora. If you know of a traditional sprinkle that is soy free, I'd love to hear about it.

    Baked Donuts

As you can see from the pictures of the kids, they loved them. My husband and I were big fans too. These are definitely going to make a nice weekend breakfast tradition around here. Especially because our breakfasts together on weekends, when we are all home are usually pancakes, and guess who doesn't like pancakes??? Yup, me. Weird, I know.

Does your family have weekend breakfast traditions? Do you only eat breakfast together on the weekends or are you able to find the time during the week?

    Ingredients

    For the Donut Batter

    • 8 T butter softened
    • 1 C sugar
    • 2 eggs
    • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
    • 3 C flour
    • 4 ½ teaspoon baking powder
    • ½ teaspoon salt
    • ½ teaspoon nutmeg
    • ½ teaspoon cinnamon
    • 1 C milk

    For The Icing

    • 1 C powdered sugar
    • 2 T milk
    • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract

    For The Cinnamon Sugar Coating

    • 6 T butter melted
    • ½ C sugar
    • ½ teaspoon cinnamon

    Instructions

    • Preheat oven to 350
    • Using a hand mixer, cream together butter and sugar
    • Add the eggs and vanilla and mix well
    • In a separate bowl combine flour, baking powder, salt, nutmeg and cinnamon
    • Add dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and slightly mix together, add milk and mix thoroughly
    • Fill the wells of a non stick donut pan with batter (you may find it helpful to place batter in a pastry bag and squeeze into wells) and bake 15-20 minutes
    • If making donut holes, fill the wells of non stick donut hole pan and bake 7-9 minutes
    • Turn out donut/donut holes to cooling rack
    • Allow donuts to cool before icing
    • Coat donut holes while still warm

    For Icing:

    • Whisk together powdered sugar, milk and vanilla in a saucepan over low heat, just until combined and smooth. Dip cooled donuts into icing and top with sprinkles if desired.

    For Cinnamon Sugar Coating:

    • Combine cinnamon and sugar in bowl
    • Dip donut holes into melted butter
    • Roll buttered donut hole around in cinnamon sugar to coat well

HAHAHA! I just literally laughed out loud. You can buy them, right here, at the bottom of the page. Or you can borrow mine to make sure you like them first. They are really easy and really yummy. There are even gluten free/vegan versions in that book I told you about

These look amazing! Baked is so much better for you than fried anyway. I already have a doughnut tin but have never used it for actual doughnuts! Going to try these soon!

These look so good, I'm itching to get up and go cook them for my husband and I. However, I have so many blogs that I need to do comment luv on. However, I just printed out the recipe you shared with us. Thank you for making that easy to do by the way!

I don't have donut pans, but it may become something I'll have to invest in.

Crystal, thanks so much for the kind comment. That easy print feature is new, as I just moved my blog over to this new platform, so I'm so glad to hear that it is useful. As for the donut pans, they are really inexpensive. I bought mine on Amazon and paid less than twenty bucks for a donut hole pan and a donut pan!

I'm with you on not liking pancakes. However, I've found that if I put fruit in them I can tolerate them. Your donuts look yummy. Are they cake donuts? The donut holes look like it. Those are my favorite. Thanks for sharing at Saturday Dishes.

I have found slathering pancakes with nutella and bananas also makes them tolerable. Yes they are cake like. I actually just made a death by chocolate donut as well that will go up soon. Thanks for the party and for coming over
