You might be used to pigs in a blanket being made with crescent rolls. And those are great, trust me, you know I love me some crescent rolls but I love that using puff pastry makes these feel a little more special without really adding extra work.

One of my favorite times to serve pigs in a blanket is during game nights. What is better than a few friends, some competition and waves of food. A perfect set up for me would be pigs in a blanket, jalapeno poppers, potato skins and a buffalo chicken dip.

Ingredients
You only need a handful of ingredients to make these cheesy little appetizer bites.
- Hot dogs: Use your favorite brand. You'll cut them into smaller pieces before wrapping. Or you can use the cocktail sized if you can find them.
- Puff pastry: One sheet of frozen puff pastry, thawed according to package directions.
- Cheddar cheese: Shredded cheddar adds a little extra flavor and a cheesy center.
- Egg: Brushed onto the pastry to help seal the edges and give the tops a beautiful golden finish.
- Everything bagel seasoning: Adds a little crunch and plenty of flavor. But if it isn't your jam, simply top with a little coarse sea salt.
See recipe card for quantities.
Instructions
Full instructions are also down in the recipe card.
Note: It is completely normal if some of the cheese melts out of the sides when cooking.
Substitutions / Variations
Switch the cheese: Try pepper jack for a little heat, or use Colby Jack or any cheddar blend.
Skip the seasoning: If everything bagel seasoning isn't your thing, leave it off or sprinkle the tops with a little flaky salt.
Change the filling: Cocktail sausages or little smokies can work in place of hot dogs. Just adjust the pastry size to fit.
Add a little mustard: Spread a thin layer of Dijon or yellow mustard on the pastry before adding the cheese and hot dog.
How to Serve
These are delicious on their own, but I like to put out some dippers for my guests.
Classic yellow mustard, honey mustard, ketchup, and barbecue sauce are all great choices. For something with a little kick, try spicy brown mustard or a spicy dipping sauce.

Make Ahead and Leftovers
Make ahead: Assemble the pigs in a blanket a few hours before baking, cover, and refrigerate. Brush with egg wash and add the seasoning just before putting them in the oven.
Store leftovers: Place cooled leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3-4 days.
Reheat: For the best texture, reheat in a 350°F oven or air fryer until warmed through and the pastry is crisp again.
